Gabam Returns As SDP National Chairman
The leadership battle within the took a new turn on Thursday as Shehu Musa Gabam officially returned to office as national chairman after a ruling by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
Gabam arrived at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja alongside security operatives from the police, DSS and Civil Defence.
The party chairman told supporters that the SDP was ready to continue its political activities peacefully ahead of future elections.
He announced that ward and state congresses would begin on May 16, while the party’s national convention would hold in Abuja. He also rejected reports of any separate convention, describing such moves as invalid.
Gabam praised security agencies, INEC and the judiciary for their roles in resolving the leadership dispute.
INEC had earlier updated its records to recognise the Gabam-led National Working Committee after the appellate court ruling affirmed his position as party chairman.
The court decision followed an appeal linked to the Ekiti governorship primary conducted by the party.
The appellate court ruled that the Federal High Court lacked the authority to decide on the SDP leadership matter and nullified parts of the earlier judgment, paving the way for Gabam’s return.
