Akpabio Threatens Oshiomhole In Senate
Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday threatened to remove Senator Adams Oshiomhole from the chamber after a heated disruption during plenary.
The clash began when the Edo North senator repeatedly interrupted proceedings while trying to raise a point of order.
The tension started as lawmakers considered the Votes and Proceedings of the previous sitting.
Oshiomhole continued shouting despite not being recognised to speak, forcing Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno and former Chief Whip Orji Kalu to step in and calm the situation.
Akpabio reminded senators about the chamber’s rules and warned that any lawmaker who became unruly could be ordered out.
He also stressed that members must understand Senate procedures before raising objections during plenary sessions.
The confrontation came shortly after the Senate amended its rules on leadership eligibility.
Under the new changes, only ranking senators with at least two consecutive terms can contest principal offices in the chamber, a move already stirring political debate ahead of 2027.
