NECO Begins Computer Exams – Alausa
The Federal Government has announced that the National Examinations Council will begin computer-based examinations this year as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s education system.
The announcement was made by Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, during NECO’s 25th anniversary celebration in Abuja.
The new examination system is expected to reduce malpractice and improve monitoring during exams.
Officials said the technology would help track suspicious activities in real time while making the assessment process faster and more reliable for candidates across the country.
At the event, NECO Registrar, Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said the council has expanded beyond Nigeria and now conducts examinations in eight countries.
He added that NECO has improved its digital services, including electronic certificates and online result verification systems.
The government said the reform is part of wider plans to prepare students for a more technology-driven world.
Stakeholders at the celebration described the move as a fresh step towards improving transparency and restoring confidence in public examinations.
