Chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has announced a donation of N2 million to assist organisations that work with survivors of sexual abuse and support the ongoing legal pursuit of justice for 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje.
Ochanya died in 2018 after enduring years of alleged sexual assault from her guardians.
Baci described Ochanya as a young girl who should have been safe and cared for but was instead betrayed by those responsible for her protection. She emphasised the importance of providing real support to survivors who continue to recover from similar traumatic experiences.
She noted that honouring Ochanya’s legacy should go beyond social media activism, urging people to focus on funding, accountability, and community involvement to ensure survivors never feel isolated in their struggles.
“A 13-year-old girl who should have been safe, loved, and protected was instead failed by the very people meant to guard her.
“As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness,” she wrote on Instagram.
Baci revealed that the donation would be shared between two reputable non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that support victims of rape and sexual abuse, with input from the public to help choose the beneficiaries.
“To support that cause, I’m pledging N2,000,000 to organisations working with rape and s3xual abuse survivors.
“I’d love for you to help me choose two trusted NGOs to receive this donation. Drop your nominations in the comments or tag them below so my team and I can review and reach out directly,” she said.
She further encouraged people to contribute to an active GoFundMe campaign that aids the ongoing legal case and urged those who cannot give financially to help by spreading awareness.
“Every contribution helps move the legal process forward and strengthens the fight for justice. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay you can still lend your voice,” she added.
Baci framed the initiative as a shared commitment to justice and empathy, stating that achieving justice for Ochanya would empower others facing similar suffering.
“Honouring her memory means doing more than posting hashtags. It means showing up for those who are still here—making sure no one ever feels alone in their pain again,” she added.
The gesture has received widespread commendation online, with many praising Baci’s openness and urging continued practical support amid the renewed #JusticeForOchanya movement.
