JAMB Arrests Students Over UTME Fraud
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has arrested two candidates and a parent over alleged manipulation of 2026 UTME results using artificial intelligence.
The arrests were announced on Friday as the board released results for candidates who sat the exam on April 16. Officials said the suspects attempted to alter official score records.
According to JAMB, the individuals tampered with SMS result notifications sent through its official platforms.
The aim was to change scores and mislead parents and the public. The board said the suspects were tracked and taken into custody after the irregularities were detected.
JAMB described the act as a criminal offence and warned that those involved would face legal action. It also cautioned candidates against interfering with result messages or using unauthorised tools to alter scores.
The board said its monitoring systems can detect such activities.
Candidates were advised to check their results through the official SMS channels using the phone numbers linked to their registration.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining a fair examination process and preventing malpractice.
