INEC Sets Date For By Election In Six States
Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed June 20, 2026, for by-elections to fill vacant seats across six states.
The polls will hold the same day as the Ekiti State governorship election 2026.
The commission said combining both exercises will cut costs and improve logistics. It added that the move will help deploy staff and security more effectively across affected areas.
The by-elections will cover seats left vacant due to death, resignation, appointments, or court rulings.
Political parties are expected to begin primaries and campaigns as preparations gather pace.
The elections are seen as an early test of party strength ahead of 2027. Attention will focus on turnout, security, and INEC’s ability to manage both polls smoothly.
