FG Declares June 12 Public Holiday
The Federal Government has announced Friday, June 12, as a public holiday to mark Democracy Day in Nigeria.
The declaration is part of activities set aside to honour the country’s return to civilian rule.
The date is observed annually to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey and the events that led to the end of military rule.
It is also a day used to recognise efforts made in strengthening democratic governance.
Government offices, schools and many private businesses are expected to close for the holiday.
Citizens are encouraged to take part in events and programmes planned to mark the occasion across the country.
The announcement follows the tradition of setting aside June 12 each year as a national day of reflection on democracy and civic participation.
