Former Cameroun minister of communication Issa Tchiroma has retracted the phrase “how can you say that”
He says he was misled.
During a heated interview with Mimi Mefo, Issa Tchiroma said he wasn’t aware of the root cause of the crìsìs in the North West and South West regions explaining why he said the problem didn’t exist.
He stated that he was just giving information imposed on him by the g0vernment.
Issa Tchiroma
“Whenever I have to deliver a communication . The Minìstry in charge which is concerned with the information gives it to me.
I have to make the information known to all Cameroonians all over the world. My responsibility is to receive the information.
They write what shall be my response and in my capacity I summon journalists and tell them.
I have no say; whatever I say is done within the framework drawn by the g0vernment and before I say it, I must receive the greenlight from the minìsterial department in charge of the information.
My responsibility was to protect and defend institutions.
I said there was no Angl0phone problem because this was the information I received.
I later realized the information put at my disposal was wrong; the root cause of this problem was not brought to my knowledge.
When I discovered it, I apologized. Because I was misled by those who gave me the information.
When I know about the root cause. I acknowledged there were problems to be fixed through dialogue.
As an individual now with no influence of the government, do you accept now that the military committed atrocities in the NW and SW regions?
I 100 percent agree with you madam. But the responsibility of the min’ister of communication is to defend our armed f0rces.
The people are d€capìtated, mutìlãted and kìlled.
This problem has to be solved via dialogue. In my capacity as president, all political prìsoners have to be released. They have to be part of this negotiation. It has to be inclusive . We need to find a common ground to enable us to solve this problem.
Only dialogue. Vì0lence can never solve this problem”
