The Kebbi State Government has allocated N10 billion to secure 1,300 extra seats for residents participating in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

Alhaji Faruku Aliyu-Yaro, Chairman of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, announced the funding on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, explaining that the loan was approved to meet the December 5 deadline set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Aliyu-Yaro commended Governor Nasir Idris for his “decisive, compassionate, and people-centred intervention,” saying the state faced the risk of losing hundreds of Hajj seats if the deadline was not met.

“Many intending pilgrims were in tears, thinking they would miss the exercise. But the governor acted at the critical moment. He deserves special prayers from the people of Kebbi State,” he said.

The chairman added that the loan not only secured Kebbi’s full allocation but also allowed more residents to participate. The deadline for paying the 2026 Hajj fare of N7,696,769.79 has been extended to December 16, giving residents across all 21 local government areas, including Argungu, Yauri, Zuru, and Bagudo, a fair chance to register.

Aliyu-Yaro noted that preparations for the 2026 Hajj began several months ago, with documentation and other arrangements already underway. “Kebbi started its Hajj preparations seven to eight months ago, which has kept the state at the forefront nationally in planning and coordination,” he said.
