Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has reaffirmed that he will only consider changing political parties ahead of the 2027 general election if such a move guarantees him a place on the presidential ticket.

The former Kano State governor stated this on Saturday while receiving supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at his residence in Kano. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing at the national level about forming or joining an opposition alliance, but made it clear that he is not interested in vague offers.

“At the national level, talks are ongoing to join an opposition coalition. We told them that we agree to go with you, but what will you give me. Appointments? How many? Which one among them will fit me, which I will accept?”

Kwankwaso stressed that he has already drawn a clear line on the conditions under which he would be willing to defect.

“I have made it categorically clear that I will only join a coalition that considers me as either the presidential or vice-presidential candidate.”

He added that his political supporters nationwide would not accept any defection unless it clearly places him in one of the two top positions on the ballot in the next general election.

The former governor also disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had previously approached him to join the ruling party. However, he said he rejected the move after the party failed to present what he described as a concrete offer that would meaningfully benefit both him and his supporters.
