The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a skincare facility in Agege, Lagos, for producing what it described as hazardous cosmetic products.
Officials who raided the premises over the weekend said the products were being manufactured under substandard conditions and sold to unsuspecting consumers as safe and “organic.”
The company, which has a large following on Instagram, reportedly produced several bleaching and whitening creams that were not registered with the agency.
Seized items included scrubs, soaps, and other skin-lightening products with attractive branding but allegedly containing harmful ingredients.
In a statement on its X handle on Sunday, NAFDAC warned that tests revealed some of the seized products contained unsafe levels of banned substances capable of causing serious health issues.
The agency also urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products, noting that many so-called “organic” brands use deceptive packaging to market dangerous formulations.
