Nigeria To Deploy Troops To Türkiye
In Nigeria, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has announced plans to deploy 200 Special Forces to Türkiye for military training.
He made this known during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 held in Antalya. The move follows discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler.
The deployment is expected to begin immediately after arrangements are completed.
The agreement is part of efforts to strengthen defence ties between both countries. Musa said Türkiye has offered training slots for 200 Nigerian personnel.
He added that joint military exercises are also planned later in the year. The collaboration is aimed at improving Nigeria’s military capacity.
Beyond training, both countries have agreed to explore joint production of defence equipment. The partnership will also include the transfer of military technology.
Musa noted that Türkiye’s progress in defence manufacturing offers lessons for Nigeria. He said the goal is to build local capacity and reduce dependence on foreign supplies.
The minister said both nations share experience in tackling terrorism and insurgency. He explained that deeper cooperation will cover training, equipment production, and exchange of personnel.
The development signals a broader push to improve Nigeria’s defence strength. The forum brought together leaders and experts from many countries to discuss global security issues.
