Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stated that Nigerians must learn to coexist with the Fulani herdsmen.

Gumi made the remark in a video shared via X, where he declared that the herdsmen form part of Nigeria and would not be leaving.

The cleric emphasised that nobody could expel them, just as they also could not expel anyone, noting that they are neighbours and should not be regarded as enemies.

According to him, if Nigeria mistakenly turns them into enemies, such a development would bring danger upon the country.

The retired army officer further explained that, in such a situation, the real enemy would take advantage of them against the nation because they already understand the internal system of the country.

He stated, “They are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together and should never become enemies with them.

“Your real enemy will use your neighbour against you, and nobody knows your secret more than your neighbour.

“He knows when you come back and when you go out. So we should never allow herdsmen to be our enemies,” Gumi said.
