Bandits Strike Kwara Border Community, Kidnaps Residents
Armed bandits attacked Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday night, leaving several residents abducted and the Emir’s palace set on fire.
The raid affected women, children and members of the royal household.
The attackers stormed the border settlement late at night, shooting as they moved through the area.
They first broke into the palace before setting parts of it ablaze and moving to nearby homes where they seized victims.
Security volunteers in the community were overpowered as the gunmen operated for hours without resistance.
Many residents escaped into surrounding bushes while others were taken away during the chaos.
Authorities had not confirmed the total number of kidnapped victims at the time of reporting, while fear remains high in the area over repeated attacks on border communities in the state.
