NNPP Selects New Chairman
The New Nigeria People’s Party has appointed Bala Mohammed as its new national chairman.
The decision was announced on Sunday after the exit of Ajuji Ahmed, who had been acting chairman since March 2024. Party spokesperson Ladipo Johnson confirmed the change.
He noted that Ahmed has now joined the African Democratic Congress.
Johnson described Mohammed as an experienced party figure with strong administrative skills.
The new chairman previously served as the party’s national organising secretary. He is expected to lead efforts to rebuild and strengthen party structures.
His appointment comes at a time of rising political activity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party also raised concerns about the state of the country’s democracy. It warned of what it called an “assault on democracy” driven by internal crises and legal battles.
The NNPP said economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity have added to the pressure. It described the current moment as “perilous” for the nation.
The party said Mohammed’s leadership would help reposition it for the coming elections. It expressed confidence in its ability to remain a platform for ordinary Nigerians.
The NNPP added that it aims to offer better governance as political preparations gather pace. It insisted the party is ready to face the challenges ahead.
