Nurses Demand Reversal Of NMA Chair Removal
The Elegant Nurses Forum has called for the reinstatement of Babajide Kehinde Saheed as chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Lagos, rejecting his reported removal.
The group said the action was unlawful and may be linked to his stance on policies affecting health workers. It warned that such moves could weaken trust in professional bodies.
The demand was made in a statement issued on April 21, 2026, by its national coordinator, Thomas Abiodun Olamide. The forum said the process did not follow laid-down constitutional rules.
It also suggested that the situation may be tied to Saheed’s opposition to certain government policies seen as unfavourable to workers.
The group described the development as harmful to union independence, saying leadership in professional bodies must remain free from political control.
A transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his removal.” The forum also urged strict respect for union rules, protection of leaders, and wider intervention from labour groups to prevent further interference.
