Nursing Student Protest Unfair Expulsion
A student nurse in Enugu State, Nwaogaranya Ifeoma Rosemary, has accused Ezzy International College of Nursing Science of expelling her over comments made in support of a colleague.
The issue stems from reactions to a viral video exposing poor conditions at Uwani General Hospital. The school, however, denies any wrongdoing.
The controversy began after another student, Joy Ezeugwu, shared footage showing poor facilities at the hospital, including lack of power, water and basic medical tools. She was later suspended, which sparked debate among students. Nwaogaranya says she supported Ezeugwu’s actions in the school WhatsApp group.
She claims her support led to threats of expulsion and a meeting with school management where she was removed from the premises without being allowed to properly defend herself.
She also alleges that no formal disciplinary steps or written warnings were issued before the decision.
The student says she was told verbally that she was no longer part of the school.
The school administrator, Ifeyinwa Okwudo, rejected the claims, saying the student was seeking attention linked to the viral incident.
She insisted that proper school processes were followed and challenged the student to produce any official expulsion letter.
The matter has sparked wider debate on student expression and discipline in health training institutions.
