NLC Rallies Behind Teachers Strike
The Nigeria Labour Congress has thrown its weight behind the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, demanding the immediate release of abducted pupils, students and teachers across the country.
The labour centre said the action reflects growing concerns over the safety of those working and learning in schools.
The union said the strike became necessary because of increasing attacks on educational institutions and the rising threat posed by kidnappers and armed groups.
It noted that teachers are being forced to take steps to protect themselves as insecurity worsens.
The NLC also expressed concern over the condition of children abducted in Oyo State and warned that insecurity is spreading across different parts of Nigeria.
It said workers in other sectors, including healthcare and local government services, have also become targets of criminal attacks.
The labour body urged governments at all levels to move beyond promises and take practical steps to secure lives and property.
It warned that further solidarity actions could follow if authorities fail to make progress in tackling the security crisis.
