Obi, Kwankwaso Alliance Rattles APC
The Nigeria Democratic Congress is gaining attention ahead of the 2027 election after Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso moved into the party following disputes inside the African Democratic Congress.
Their arrival has attracted lawmakers, political blocs and supporters from different parts of the country, raising fresh talks about a stronger opposition ahead of the next presidential race.
The growing alliance is drawing attention because of the voting strength both men recorded in the 2023 election.
Obi secured more than six million votes while Kwankwaso won about 1.5 million votes.
Political observers believe the combination of their supporters, structures and lawmakers could turn the NDC into a major force before 2027.
Several politicians who left the ADC blamed internal court cases and leadership battles for their decision. Senator Victor Umeh said endless disputes within the party made it difficult for serious politicians to focus on national issues.
Obi also said the opposition needed a peaceful platform free from constant litigation and political distractions.
Despite the growing momentum around the NDC, the APC dismissed the alliance as political noise.
APC spokesman Felix Morka described the opposition figures as politicians moving from one platform to another in search of easy tickets.
Still, the new alliance has already changed political discussions in Abuja, with many now watching how the NDC prepares for the 2027 contest.
