Obi, Kwankwaso Forge Alliance For ADC Ticket
Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have reached an agreement to run together ahead of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary.
The deal, reached in Abuja after weeks of talks, is aimed at building a joint ticket that can compete strongly in the 2027 election.
Under the plan, Obi is set to contest as president while Kwankwaso takes the vice-presidential slot.
Party insiders say the pairing is meant to unite support across regions by combining Obi’s southern base with Kwankwaso’s northern network.
The alliance is expected to face strong competition within the party from figures like Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, who are also eyeing the ticket.
Supporters of both camps have downplayed the impact of the new partnership, insisting their own candidates remain strong contenders.
Across party ranks, reactions have been mixed, with some backing the move as a strategic step while others question its strength on the ground.
Analysts say the success of any alliance will depend less on big names and more on building strong grassroots structures ahead of 2027.
