Okonkwo Sets Condition For Atiku Support
Former presidential campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo has said he will not campaign for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 election if the African Democratic Congress fails to choose its vice-presidential candidate from the South-East.
He made the statement amid reports that the party may select a running mate from the South-South region.
Okonkwo argued that such a move would further sideline the South-East, noting that the region has not produced either a President or Vice President since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
He maintained that excluding the zone from the ticket would be unfair to its people.
The former Labour Party chieftain also pointed to the role played by ADC founder Ralph Nwosu, saying the South-East had already made sacrifices to strengthen the opposition coalition.
According to him, the region should not be denied the vice-presidential position after giving up other strategic roles within the alliance.
Okonkwo insisted that his political involvement is rooted in the pursuit of fairness and inclusion.
He added that he would only support a presidential ticket that gives the South-East a place as either the presidential or vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
