Only Impeccable Candidate Can Win Against Tinubu – Datti Ahmed
Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria, said in Abuja that anyone seeking to defeat Bola Tinubu in 2027 must have a spotless record.
Speaking during a television interview, he also insisted his party won the 2023 election and questioned the outcome despite court rulings.
He argued that Nigeria’s democratic system faces pressure, claiming governance has fallen short in key areas like security and the economy.
He linked political tensions to actions he believes weaken opposition parties, while maintaining that only credible leadership can restore trust among voters ahead of the next election cycle.
The politician also revealed plans to leave the Labour Party, citing internal disagreements and a shift from its founding ideals.
He said his exit would take effect immediately, marking a major move in his political journey as consultations continue across opposition circles.
He confirmed his next destination as the People’s Redemption Party, describing it as a party with a long history and strong ideological roots.
The party, founded by Aminu Kano, is known for its reform-driven outlook, and his move is expected to shape political alignments ahead of 2027.
