In Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke said the ongoing upgrade of the Osogbo Stadium will meet global standards when completed.
He spoke after reviewing the project on Monday, according to his aide Olawale Rasheed. The governor said the state is aiming for international certification.
He added that the facility is being redesigned to meet FIFA requirements.
The project will expand the stadium’s seating capacity from 4,000 to 15,000. Adeleke said the plan is to modernise the venue and attract major sporting events.
He noted that the upgrade would also create more opportunities for young athletes.
The state hopes to become a hub for both local and international competitions.
To achieve this, the governor said both local and foreign experts are involved in the work. He explained that their input is key to meeting global standards.
He also said the government is pushing to activate the Osun Sports Trust Fund and Sports Commission.
These steps are aimed at improving funding and long-term planning.
Adeleke added that the broader goal is to build a stronger sports system in the state. He said better facilities and structures will support talent growth.
The governor also praised the contractors for their pace of work. He commended Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi for helping drive the project.
