More than ten victims of a fatal crash on the Benin–Auchi highway were rescued on Saturday after Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo intervened on his way to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area.
The governor met a major gridlock near the bypass, stepped down from his convoy to investigate, and found several passengers bleeding heavily while bystanders watched helplessly.
According to Channels TV, Okpebholo ordered two of his security Hilux vehicles to transport the injured to the nearest hospital. Eyewitnesses said the crash happened when a white Toyota Venza, registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW, drove against traffic and rammed into three fully loaded commercial buses.
The governor personally supervised the rescue, ensuring victims—including a severely wounded woman—were evacuated one after another. He remained at the scene until every casualty had been taken to the hospital under security escort before resuming his trip.
Motorists and residents applauded his swift action, which they said saved lives. As of press time, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps nor the Edo State Government had issued an official statement on the crash.
