Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and former labour minister Chris Ngige were among the high-profile attendees at the traditional wedding of Chikamkpa, son of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja.

The ceremony, which took place on Saturday, saw Chikamkpa marry Mrs. Anita in a celebration attended by political and business figures from across Nigeria.

Other prominent guests included former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and APC 2023 Rivers State governorship candidate Tonye Cole.

Several serving governors, senators, ministers, traditional rulers, and business leaders also joined the festivities.

Amaechi shared highlights from the event on his X page on Monday, expressing gratitude to attendees. “It was a beautiful ceremony. I’m thankful to all who showed up to celebrate with us. Proud father, now father-in-law. P/S: my son, Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi and Anita’s traditional marriage ceremony,” he wrote.

Rotimi Amaechi served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, and minister of transportation from 2015 to 2022 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He resigned from the cabinet in 2022 to contest the APC presidential primaries, finishing second to President Bola Tinubu, who secured 316 delegate votes.
