El Rufai Family Protests DSS Action
The family of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has protested after officials of the Department of State Services allegedly took him into custody following proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The incident reportedly happened shortly after the court granted him bail.
Family members claimed the action went against existing court directives which ordered that he remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
His wife, Hasiat, said the family had been facing constant pressure, surveillance and threats since his detention began.
Relatives also alleged that El-Rufai had been denied proper access to his personal doctors despite a court order allowing medical visits.
His son, Bello El-Rufai, described the case as politically driven and criticised the strict bail conditions attached to the ruling.
Security sources later disclosed that after consultations among lawyers involved in the matter, the former governor was eventually returned to ICPC custody later in the evening.
The case is expected to continue in court as political tension around the trial grows.
