UK Trial Damaged My Reputation, Integrity – Diezani
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has said her long legal battle in the United Kingdom has damaged her public image and personal integrity following her recent acquittal on bribery charges in London.
She made the remarks in an interview with the BBC, where she reflected on a 13-year investigation by the UK’s National Crime Agency.
She said the process affected her freedom, career and public standing, describing the experience as painful and damaging to her life.
Alison-Madueke maintained that she was wrongly treated during the probe and claimed that important documents that could have supported her defence were taken away in Nigeria.
She insisted she has always denied the corruption allegations brought against her.
She also said the investigation ignored her contributions in office and the challenges she faced as Nigeria’s first female petroleum minister and former OPEC leader.
She added that she plans to speak more about the case and her experiences at a later time.
