Presidency Dismisses Atiku’s 2027 Challenge
In Nigeria, the ruling APC and the Presidency have dismissed the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the ADC presidential candidate as no threat ahead of 2027.
They said voters would judge based on performance, not coalition politics. The reaction followed Atiku’s victory at the opposition primary held in Ibadan.
Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat rivals including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The process drew controversy as some contestants rejected the outcome and stayed away from final collation. Despite this, Atiku was declared winner and accepted the ticket.
The Presidency said the opposition coalition behind him lacks unity and direction. Officials argued that the group is made up of competing ambitions rather than a shared plan.
They also said the withdrawal of key figures shows internal weakness. According to them, the structure cannot match a united ruling party.
Opposition parties reacted differently, with some warning that Atiku’s return could deepen political tension over zoning and rotation.
The APC insisted that Nigerians would focus on governance records under President Bola Tinubu. Supporters of Atiku, however, said the coalition reflects growing public frustration with current conditions.
The debate has added fresh energy to early 2027 politics.
