Retired General Denies Coup Plot Against Tinubu
A retired Nigerian Army officer, Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, has denied any role in an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
He spoke during questioning by a joint investigative panel probing claims of a planned coup involving security personnel and civilians. His name reportedly appeared in financial records linked to the case.
Investigators claimed a ₦2 million transfer tied him to suspected funding, but Gana admitted receiving the money while rejecting any wrongdoing.
He said the funds came from a former colleague for personal support and not for illegal activity. He also denied knowledge of any plan to disrupt the government.
The probe follows claims by the Nigerian Army of a wider conspiracy involving meetings, funding, and possible attacks.
The case is already before a Federal High Court in Abuja, where several suspects are facing charges linked to treason and related offences. Gana is among those named in the investigation.
Defending himself, the retired officer said he had lived quietly since leaving service and had no interest in military rule.
He also explained that messages linked to him were simply forwarded content, not created by him. He insisted he had no involvement in any plot and remained committed to the law.
