President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant reshuffling of responsibilities within his finance team, transferring several major duties from the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Under the new structure, Uzoka-Anite will now take charge of vital areas of Nigeria’s domestic financial management.
Her expanded responsibilities include overseeing revenue generation and allocation, managing all domestic debt obligations, and supervising internal finance operations.
She will also handle technical financial services, cash management, and the distribution of revenue among the federal, state and local governments through the Federation Account.
In addition, oversight of the Nigerian Customs Service and development finance activities has been placed under her supervision.
Meanwhile, there have been reports suggesting that President Tinubu initially considered removing Edun from office but later decided against it.
Sources further indicate that Edun may voluntarily step aside in 2026 due to health considerations and a desire to protect his public image, as Uzoka-Anite continues to assume greater responsibility within the finance ministry.
