Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that heartbreak inspired her to get a tattoo, a decision she made during one of the toughest periods of her life.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Katy Igwe, Savage disclosed that she flew a tattoo artist from Los Angeles to her home in Lagos because she didn’t want to express her pain publicly in a tattoo parlour.
“I flew in my tattoo artist from LA to Nigeria and did it in my room so I was in an environment where I was comfortable. When you’re in a tattoo parlour, a lot of people are working while you’re going through that pain. I wanted to make sure I was in a comfortable place,” she said.
According to her, the session was intense and bloody, prompting concern from the artist. “He walked in and was like, ‘What are you doing? Is that going to come off?’ When he started tattooing my body, there was blood everywhere. He was more worried about me, asking what I was trying to do,” she explained.
Savage revealed that the tattoo was a way to channel the emotional pain she felt at the time. “I did that from the pain of a heartbreak. I just wanted to do something to scream. The last two years were a very hard time. The relationship I experienced was crazy. I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship,” she added.
