Nigeria And Ethiopia Sign Prisoner Transfer Deal
Nigeria and Ethiopia have reached an agreement that will allow the transfer of 100 Nigerian prisoners currently serving jail terms in Ethiopia.
The arrangement is part of efforts to bring the affected citizens closer to their families and support their rehabilitation.
The agreement was sealed during high-level discussions between officials of both countries.
It follows ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at addressing the welfare of Nigerians held in foreign correctional facilities.
Under the deal, the selected inmates will be transferred to Nigeria, where they are expected to continue serving their sentences in line with applicable laws and international agreements.
Authorities believe the move will improve their access to family support and reintegration programmes.
The development marks another step in strengthening relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia while addressing concerns over the condition and welfare of Nigerian citizens imprisoned abroad.
