In China they had to ban banks from using it to lure people.

So, this toy has been in the market since 2015. Created in Hong Hong by Kasing Lung. Inspired by a Nomadic folklore of Forest Monsters.

— In summary, they are Satan’s pets, demons. According to the stories where they were created from.

But it went viral April 2024 when a Thai K- pop star, Lisa from BlackPink, posted it and said she is a collector, and has been collecting different models for years.

Somehow after that video, demand for the toy skyrocketed in Southeast Asia. Thereby making the value to rise.

Infact, this week someone sold a human sized Labubu for $170,000 (₦286M) in China, after hours of bidding. Another sold for $130k.

After Lisa’s posts, the demons became scarce. They had to produce more, but ensured there were special limited editions for collectors.

Seeing that celebs like Cardi B, David Beckham, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian I’ve all rocked it as accessories. — Nigeria was inevitable.

Baddies on TikTok fell in love with it now it’s the trending toy in Nigeria. Everyone woman wants one because “it brings out the inner girl in them and they are cute”. Some of the bush baby thingy, are sold up to $3000 in retails.

It has different sizes, up to a full human sized Labulabu. Those ones are collectibles, rare and expensive.

Nigerians are rushing it for aesthetics as key holders or bag charm, some use it as even pendants on their neck.

While many find it bizarre, more want it. But the only thing holding them back is the price.

As the toy is now a Status Symbol.
