Wike Backed PDP Picks Onor As Presidential Candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party has announced Professor Sandy Ojang Onor as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election after a consensus process involving party structures across the country.
The declaration was made on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Onor, a former senator from Cross River, emerged as the sole contender in the exercise overseen by the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The party said his selection followed affirmation from delegates in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The result was announced by former Benue governor Samuel Ortom, who led the primary committee.
Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present during the collation and declaration of results at the venue.
In his acceptance speech, Onor pledged commitment to the party and expressed confidence that the PDP remains capable of challenging the ruling APC in 2027.
He also criticised the opposition coalition linked to the African Democratic Congress, saying it lacked direction and structure.
