Nigeria Police Deploy Nationwide Ahead of Eid
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered stronger security measures across Nigeria ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The directive was announced on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, as Muslims prepare for the annual festival. The police say the aim is to ensure safety during the holiday period.
Disu extended greetings to Muslim faithful across the country and wished all Nigerians a peaceful celebration.
He also said the police are committed to protecting lives and property during the festive period. The statement was issued through the Force Public Relations Officer in Abuja.
Security units have been deployed to key locations including prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, highways and recreational centres.
Police teams are also carrying out patrols, surveillance and intelligence operations to prevent any security breach. Rapid response teams have been placed on standby.
The police also urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. They encouraged people to speak up about unusual movements, abandoned items or behaviour that looks out of place.
The Force said public cooperation is key to preventing crime during the celebrations.
