Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has described some internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as ‘Yahoo boys,’ as intelligent individuals who require proper guidance rather than condemnation.
Obi pointed out that these young people are creative but lack the right direction, noting that their skills could be harnessed to promote innovation and contribute to national progress.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday, he stressed that although money is important, genuine wealth is built on integrity, character, and a sense of purpose.
He explained that wealth should serve to uplift individuals and society by enhancing education, alleviating poverty, and providing opportunities for people to live decent lives.
“Some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation.
“Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development.
“Real wealth uplifts both the individual and society, promotes education, reduces poverty, and creates opportunities for others to live dignified lives,” he said.
