17 Lawmakers Dump ADC For NDC
In Abuja on Tuesday, at least seventeen members of the House of Representatives left the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, marking a fresh shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
Their defection was formally announced during plenary, drawing attention across the National Assembly. The move came just a day after Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also switched to the NDC.
The lawmakers explained their decision as part of ongoing political realignments within opposition ranks.
The wave of exits reflects growing uncertainty within the ADC and rising interest in the NDC as a new platform. Another lawmaker, Leke Abejide, also left the ADC but joined the All Progressives Congress instead.
Those who moved to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado. Their exit adds to the growing list of politicians changing camps in recent weeks.
The development points to deeper changes within Nigeria’s political space as parties reposition for 2027.
With more defections likely, alliances and strategies continue to shift as key players search for stronger platforms ahead of the elections.
