The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is in mourning following the death of its only elected female councillor, Honourable Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo.
Shotayo, who represented Ward C3 and served as Chief Whip of the 6th Legislative Arm, died on Monday, August 18, 2025, after a brief illness. She was just 29 years old.
Her passing comes less than three weeks after she was sworn into office, making her one of the youngest councillors in Lagos State.
In a condolence message, Council Chairman Hon. Seyi Jakande described her as a beacon of hope and an inspiration for young women in politics.
“Hon. Zainab was not only the youngest member of our council but also an exemplary leader who inspired many through her resilience and dedication to service,” Jakande said. “Her contributions as Chief Whip and her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents will be remembered for years to come. This is a profound loss for our community.”
The council secretariat in Ilupeju has remained in a somber mood as colleagues and residents continue to express shock over the death of the young lawmaker.
