Supreme Court Sanctions Lawyer Over Vexatious Appeal
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has taken a firm stand against a lawyer, S.M. Danyaro, after striking out his application and imposing a N50 million personal cost for what it described as a baseless appeal filed after a concluded case.
The decision was delivered by Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme on June 22, 2026, where the court said the application amounted to an abuse of process and showed disrespect for judicial procedure.
The court ruled that the lawyer acted improperly by filing what it considered a pointless application aimed at revisiting an earlier judgment delivered in June 2025, and ordered him to pay the fine within 90 days.
Beyond the financial penalty, the Supreme Court barred the lawyer from appearing in any Nigerian court until he complies fully with the ruling, stating that the earlier judgment in the case remains final and binding.
