The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has officially defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin made the announcement on Monday through his Facebook page, stating that his supporters had unanimously agreed to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to realign with the ruling party.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” he wrote.

According to him, the gathering resolved to join the APC and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Jibrin also disclosed that nearly 2,000 scholars from his constituency offered special prayers for the President, seeking peace, progress, and development for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria as a whole.

The former NNPP lawmaker’s defection comes two months after his expulsion from the party over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues.

At the time, Jibrin described his suspension as “shocking and unjustified,” accusing the NNPP of denying him fair hearing and due process before expelling him. He maintained that the interview the party cited as grounds for his suspension did not warrant such disciplinary action.

Despite the circumstances surrounding his removal, Jibrin said he accepted the decision in good faith and chose not to challenge it in court.
