Accord Thugs Shoots APC Member In Osun
Political violence erupted in Osun State on Saturday after an APC member was shot and two residents of Ilesa were reportedly abducted in separate incidents linked to rival political groups.
The attacks have raised fresh concerns ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The injured APC supporter, Taofeek Mustapha, said armed men opened fire before chasing him because he was wearing an AMBO campaign cap.
He alleged that the attackers used Accord Party insignia, while frightened residents fled the area as gunshots rang out.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the shooting and said investigations had begun.
Police also announced that the two people reportedly kidnapped in Ilesa had been rescued, easing fears over the incident.
As political tension continues to rise, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered stronger security operations across Osun.
Security personnel have been directed to raid criminal hideouts, increase patrols and prevent violence before the governorship election.
