INEC 2027 Funding Delay Raises Public Fear
Political parties have raised fresh concerns over the delay in releasing funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 general elections.
The ADC, PDP and NDC warned that the situation could slow preparations and affect the credibility of the polls, while the APC insisted there was no reason for concern.
The concerns followed INEC’s disclosure that it had not yet received budget releases for the elections despite already beginning preparations.
The commission said it was planning to replace damaged BVAS machines, test its technology and procure sensitive materials needed for the nationwide exercise.
Opposition parties argued that delayed funding could disrupt procurement, staff training and other key activities, especially as many election materials are sourced from abroad.
Election experts also warned that late funding could weaken public confidence and create avoidable challenges before voting begins.
INEC, however, maintained that its preparations remain on schedule and described its funding process as phased rather than a one-time release.
The commission said government support has continued, while the APC expressed confidence that all necessary funds would be released before the elections.
