The leadership group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which consists of opposition politicians, met yesterday. This meeting was seen as a final attempt to address internal disagreements and keep their alliance strong, all in order to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general election.

According to The Report on September 26, 2025, the coalition faced challenges from recent political events. Notably, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been trying to attract Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and Mr. Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, to join their party. Tensions rose even more when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as a potential new party to be registered.

Naijauser.com has also found out that Obi, who traveled to the United States one day before the meeting, started thinking about the coalition’s structure and goals after talking with former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former leader of the Labour Party has informed his supporters, who are called the “Obidients,” that he will make a clear statement about his political plans for 2027 after the governorship election and the PDP national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Sources close to the former governor of Anambra State said that Obi is determined not to take part in any presidential primary that does not eliminate northern candidates. They noted that he is committed to serving only one term based on the principle of power sharing.

Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, urged leaders of the ADC to maintain the coalition, warning that if the presidential candidates do not come together under one platform, President Tinubu could win the 2027 election and have a lengthy term like Cameroon’s President Paul Biya.

El-Rufai, while receiving a solidarity visit from Atiku, earlier suggested that the coalition should support a southern candidate to finish the remaining four years of the presidency in the southern region.
