Amaechi Blames Atiku For Regional Presidency Bias
Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has criticised arguments linking Nigeria’s presidency to regional entitlement, saying leadership should not be decided by where a candidate comes from.
He made the remarks during a television interview in Abuja on Friday.
He said debates that focus only on North or South risk limiting political choice and weakening national unity.
Amaechi argued that competence, age, and leadership ability should matter more than regional rotation when selecting a president.
The former minister also responded to comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has insisted that the North deserves more time in power.
Amaechi warned that such a position could affect voter support across other regions ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also spoke about his political journey, claiming he was forced out of both major parties during internal disputes.
While affirming Atiku’s right to contest, he maintained that national leadership should not be built on regional arguments alone.
