The Anambra State Government has announced Friday as a work-free day for all civil servants ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
The decision was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka by the Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe, who said the directive was approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Igwegbe explained that the move is to give workers enough time to travel to their various communities and exercise their voting rights during the election. She described the initiative as a way to promote greater participation of the state’s workforce in the democratic process.
She emphasized that taking part in elections is a civic responsibility and one of the most important contributions civil servants can make toward sustaining good governance.
The Head of Service also instructed all political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that their staff are properly informed and comply fully with the directive.
