A forum of the All Progressives Congress 2023 House of Assembly candidates in Enugu State has appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to dump the Peoples Democratic Party and join the APC.
‎
‎In a letter to the governor dated August 11 and made available on Monday, the group’s coordinator, Mr. Godwin Onwusi—who contested for the Udi North State Constituency seat in the last election—argued that playing opposition had done more harm than good to them. He maintained that Enugu would benefit more from the programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s administration if Mbah joined the APC.
‎
‎In the letter titled “Request/Appeal for You to Hook Enugu State to the National Grid of Politics by Joining Our Great Party, the All Progressives Congress,”
‎
‎“With all humility and respect, we, the undersigned APC, Enugu State, House of Assembly candidates during the 2023 general elections hereby appeal to you to favourably consider joining our great party, the All Progressives Congress,” the letter read in part”
‎
‎The group contended that the governor’s membership would strengthen the APC to win future elections in the state and make it easier to attract federal benefits.
‎
‎“Your Excellency, we have no doubt that your entrance into the APC will not only give it the strength it requires to win election in Enugu State but also make Enugu State more friendly with the Federal Government, with its attendant benefits.”
‎
‎The group concluded by expressing optimism that Governor Mbah would give the appeal favourable consideration.
‎
‎The group’s letter is a renewed push for Mbah defection from the PDP. The governor had in June denied any plan to leave the PDP for the APC amid reported back-end pressure from the ruling party
