APC Rejects Oyo 2026 Local Government Election
The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has said it will not take part in the planned local government elections set for December 2026 across the state’s 33 councils.
The party described the exercise as unfair and not in the interest of residents.
The position was made known in a statement issued by the party’s publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, who said the planned poll would deepen challenges at the grassroots level.
He added that the party would work with others to resist the process.
The APC accused the state government of planning to use the election to install loyalists in council positions ahead of the 2027 political transition.
It also raised concerns over the management of local government funds and alleged misuse of resources.
The party further argued that past council elections in the state lacked credibility and warned that any similar exercise would be rejected.
It maintained that grassroots governance should reflect true autonomy and fairness.
