Atiku Fires Back At Wike On Rivers
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has responded sharply to comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over claims that he would struggle to secure votes in Rivers State during the 2027 elections.
Wike had earlier insisted that Atiku and the ADC would fail to win even a small share of votes in the state, adding that only candidates backed by his political group would succeed in the governorship race.
The remarks were made at a political gathering in Rivers State.
In reaction, Atiku, through his media aide, said no individual has control over how people of Rivers State will vote.
He described voters in the state as independent and capable of making their own political decisions without pressure or influence from powerful figures.
He also said the focus of Nigerians should be on rising living costs, insecurity, and economic struggles rather than political forecasts.
According to him, the comments from Wike reflect tension within the ruling political camp ahead of the 2027 elections.
