Borno Governor Shutdown Bama Displacement Camp
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has directed the immediate closure of the internally displaced persons camp in Bama Local Government Area.
The decision follows reports of infiltration and increasing criminal activities inside the facility. The move is aimed at improving security and protecting residents.
The governor said the camp had become vulnerable to people exploiting the humanitarian setting for illegal activities.
He noted that the situation now poses a risk to both displaced persons and surrounding communities, making urgent action necessary.
The state government has directed relevant agencies to begin implementing the closure while ensuring affected residents receive the necessary support.
Authorities are expected to coordinate the relocation and reintegration process in line with existing humanitarian plans.
The closure forms part of Borno State’s wider efforts to improve security, reduce criminal threats and encourage the safe return of displaced people to their communities where conditions permit.
