Cooking Gas Price Surges Nationwide
Cooking gas prices have surged across Nigeria as supply shortages, high import costs and foreign exchange pressure push LPG rates to new levels.
The rise is being felt most in Lagos and other major cities where consumers now pay far more for daily cooking needs.
In Lagos, prices have climbed as high as N2,000 per kilogramme in some areas, while Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Bida also recorded steady increases.
Depot operators and marketers say reduced imports have tightened supply and pushed up retail costs across the country.
Retail checks show sharp variations depending on location, with some areas in Lagos selling between N1,500 and N2,000 per kilogramme.
Neighbouring Ogun State and parts of the Lagos-Ibadan corridor also report similar increases, leaving households and small traders under pressure.
Industry players link the situation to rising landing costs, dollar scarcity and reduced import activity.
With demand rising and storage limits still low nationwide, consumers continue to face unstable prices and frequent adjustments at filling stations.
